ABOUT YSM

Youths of St. Mulumba (YSM)

The Youths of St. Mulumba (YSM) is the youth wing of The Order of the Knights of Saint Mulumba, Nigeria. It provides a structured platform through which young Catholics can deepen their faith, develop strong moral character, build leadership capacity, and participate actively in service to God, the Church, and society.

Motto: Character and Service

The motto “Character and Service” expresses the two fundamental ideals of the YSM. Members are encouraged to develop good Christian character while putting their talents, time, and abilities at the service of God and others.

Membership

Admission into the YSM is open to boys and girls between the ages of 14 and 25 years. Membership is largely drawn from the children of the Knights and Ladies of St. Mulumba. However, other young people whose parents are Catholics may also be admitted.

The YSM provides young people with an environment where they can grow in friendship, faith, discipline, responsibility, and service while remaining connected to the Catholic community.

Formation and Spiritual Development

A major focus of the YSM is the formation of young people in the Catholic faith. Members are encouraged to:

  • Grow in their relationship with God through prayer and the Sacraments.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of Catholic teachings.
  • Participate actively in Holy Mass and other Church activities.
  • Cultivate devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Saints.
  • Develop a strong sense of Christian responsibility.
  • Live out their faith in their homes, schools, workplaces, and communities.
  • Become positive examples to other young people.

Leadership Development

Through participation in youth activities and responsibilities, members can learn:

  • Leadership and teamwork.
  • Communication and public speaking.
  • Organization and event management.
  • Discipline and accountability.
  • Conflict resolution.
  • Community engagement.
  • Responsible decision-making.

These experiences help prepare young people to become responsible members of the Church and productive citizens of society.

STRUCTURE OF THE YSM

  • Respect for human dignity.
  • Responsible use of their talents and opportunities.

The objective is to raise young Catholics whose lives demonstrate strong Christian values both within and outside the Church.

Service to the Church and Society

THE FUTURE OF THE CHURCH

Building the Next Generation

The YSM represents an important pathway for nurturing the next generation of Catholic men and women who can contribute meaningfully to the Church and society. By combining faith, character, leadership, friendship, and service, the YSM gives young people opportunities to discover their gifts and use them for the greater good.

The formation of young people today can help ensure that the values and charitable mission associated with the Order continue to flourish into the future.

YSM Vision

To raise spiritually grounded, morally upright, disciplined and service-oriented young Catholics who will become responsible leaders in the Church and society.
